My "pick of the litter" pup was the hardest to finish! As a puppy, he
hated the show ring. Something about showing in a tin livestock barn during
an Arkansas snow/sleet/ blizzard (1st show) and a Kansas tornado (2nd show).
Since we all know what happened to Dorothy in a Kansas Tornado, maybe he was
too smart as a puppy? With age came confidence and the desire to "show-off".
However, age didn't help his bite; those RWD's got very frustrating! Quality
shines through imperfections; we made the open class cut at the '98 National
under breeder judge Pat Weymouth. With that boost to my confidence and with
renewed determination, we entered a few more shows. (He already had a 4 point
win from Betty Moore.) Purple went on to finish with a 5 point major at the
ABTC regional speciality under Dr. Robert Berndt.
Purple crossed the rainbow bridge on October 28, 2004. His battle with cancer
was brief ~ I hold on to the fact that he didn't suffer long. Rest well Best
Friend until we meet again.

When your first points are earned as a puppy winning WB/BOW/BOB/Group 4, how
do you top that? By going WB/BOW/BOB/Group 3 the next day! (Incredible fun
for the breeder/handler/co-owner on the end of the lead!) Chili and Ikie garnered
multiple BOB's and BOS's wins on the way to her championship. However, maybe
their greatest win was to finish by going WB/BOS to "Purple's" WD/BOW/BOB
for 4 points over a ringful of specials! Judge Betty Moore then added to the
"thrill" when she told us "this is the nicest tervuren entry I have judged
in many years." After retiring from the show ring, Chili spent several years
with Carole Robbins as a working therapy dog for geriatric patients. At age
9 her "forever home" began with Barbara Sutton; Chili spends her days as a
"lady" of leisure! At age 10, she has taken up herding just to "keep fit".
Thanks Barbara for loving Chili ~ I agree she's GREAT!

Allison and "Rico" literally stole the show from the puppy classes! Pictured
with Judge Janet Wilcox winning a Group 3 (after going BOB over BIS #1 terv),
Rico's puppy career ended 2 points short of his championship. He returned
to the ring as an adult (sometimes family obligations put "dog stuff" on hold)
to finish with a WD/BOW/BOB/Group4! When your "bestest friend" owns your "sweetest
puppy", when their love for each other shines for all to see, how could it
get any better?
Rico lost his battle with cancer at age 11+ on August 18, 2004. Within 3 short
months, his two brothers also succumbed to cancer. Rest in Peace Dear Rico.
